Jan 13th – 15th Shows

In fall 2017, Brandon Wozniak and Bryan Nichols were playing a gig and got to talking about their mutual love of the Stan Getz/Kenny Barron duet album “People Time,” and how fun it might be to do our own recording in a similar vein. Thanks to Andrew Walesch at the Dunsmore Room at Crooner’s, a premier listening room in the Twin Cities, we have the opportunity to document two live concerts showcasing our intimate explorations of our own music and jazz standards, and a near-telepathic interplay forged in a decade mutual experience in a variety of Twin Cities best jazz groups, as well as casual duet settings. With two of the Twin Cities most in-demand musicians, a beautiful Steinway D and listening room, and the added intensity of live recording, these are must-see events.

Atlantis Quartet is celebrating 10 years as a band this month with a couple performances at Vieux Carre. We had hoped to have a new record out by now but  3/4 of the group decided to make babies before we all get too old to chase them around. We’ve been rehearsing the new songs and should have another record out in early 2017 but we have some fun things planned for the 10 year anniversary at Vieux Carre so come down and celebrate with us. July Performances 2016 USA/Practice Video Series

Time to stop being lazy and record (GoPro) my journey to jazz stardom. I’ve noticed many musicians out there snapfacing, posting videos of themselves practicing or documenting their progress on their first cd which will surely get them on all the european jazz festivals right out of the gate. It’s an exciting time for sure so thanks for the inspirational vids and be on the lookout for my practice video series called “Brandon’s Improvisation Dojo” which should be out around never.  I’m kidding…kind of but I actually do have some exciting news to share with everyone!

The Dave King Trucking Company released our third record called Surrounded by the Night on Sunny Side Records. It’s getting some nice reviews and all kidding aside, it turned out great and we think/hope you’ll like it. Bringing merch to our shows is not our strong suit but hopefully we’ll have some copies available this weekend for the CD release. Dates and info below.

Atlantis Quartet & Vector Families(formerly known as PBR Street Gang)

Hello,

I play in a band called the Atlantis Quartet. We’ve been together for about 8 or 9 years. We are one of four proud recipients of the 2015-2016 McKnight Artist Fellowships for Performing Musicians award administered by MacPhail Center for Music. This money will help us make more music and buy great reviews in Downbeat. Just kidding, we would never do that and in all seriousness, MANY THANKS TO THE MCKNIGHT FOUNDATION!! We also have a gig this Saturday, view the pic for details.

I play in another band I’M VERY EXCITED ABOUT called VECTOR FAMILIES, formerly known as PBR Street Gang w/Dave King, Dean Granros & Anthony Cox.  We had to change our name because some DJs in the UK already have it and they appear to be way more famous than we are. We’re playing the Jazz at Studio Z Series curated by Zacc Harris on June 6th. PBR Street Gang is listed on the Studio Z website but this will be our last show under that name and from hear on out it will be Vector Families for life.

JAZZ AT STUDIO Z
DAVE KING’S PBR STREET GANG

June 6, 2015
Studio Z: 275 East Fourth Street, Suite 200, St. Paul6 p.m. master class
6pm. Clinic
7 p.m. Concert
$10

We made a record a couple months ago we think people will like which will be out at some point in the near future. We also had a great performance at Lawrence University a couple weeks ago so thanks again to the students for their enthusiasm and always awesome hospitality.  Here’s a review from the show, apparently my playing is “disorienting” “played similarly to a bebop saxophonist, but harmonically, he was out there.” “often disorienting and spiraled in and out of control, but at some points it was much more lyrical and subdued, providing an unexpected but alluring contrast” There you have it.

Mancrush & Nichols/Bates/Wozniak Trio

Hello,

I’ve got a couple performances coming up that I’d like to share with my HUGE fan base. Drummer/Composer Lars Larson has a band named Mancrush which I play in along with Bryan Nichols on keyboard/piano and Zacc Harris on guitar.  There is no bass player in this band so Bryan has to work twice as hard for the same money. Thanks Bryan!  We’re excited to play Saturday Night Jazz @ the Blackdog curated by Steve Kenny.

On Monday April 27th I’ll be playing with a newish trio consisting of my good buddies Bryan Nichols on Keyboard and JT Bates on drums.  Once again there’s no bass player in this trio but I’ve noticed a lot of bass players coming out to support these groups. Weird 😉  All kidding aside, this is one of my favorite groups to play in and I hope you’ll join us.
